PRINTPROFIT • INFORMATION CENTRE

Guide & Help.

A practical guide to the current PrintProfit workflow, pricing calculations, saving, file analysis, materials, delivery, selling fees, Profit Toolkit and Compare Products.

3D printing cost calculator

Estimate what it costs to make a 3D print and choose a selling price using your own printer, material and business figures. PrintProfit supports filament and resin workflows.

What goes into an estimate?

Add material usage, print time, electricity, printer depreciation, labour, packaging, delivery and selling fees. The calculator brings these costs together to show estimated cost, break-even price, profit and margin. Results depend on the values and rates you enter, so check them against your actual costs.

Can a print file fill in the details?

Upload a supported print or model file to see which details PrintProfit can read. Some files include print time or material usage; others do not. Review detected values and enter anything missing from your slicer before relying on the estimate.

Start here
1

Your Model

Upload a supported model or print file. Where useful information is available, PrintProfit analyses it and shows what it found. You can also enter print time and material usage yourself.

2

Print Setup

Select the printer and material used for the print. Printer profiles provide the figures needed for power and depreciation; resin profiles switch the material workflow to resin.

3

Costs & Fees

Enter the costs involved in making and selling the print: labour, packaging, other costs, electricity, marketplace fees, payment fees, fixed fees and delivery.

4

Calculate & Results

Set your selling price and quantity, then use Calculate Costs & Price. The Results area shows single-print or batch economics, profit, margin and pricing options.

You do not need to fill every field. Blank cost fields are treated as zero for a basic estimate, but your result is only as useful as the figures you provide.
Your Model & file intelligence

G-code and supported files

PrintProfit recognises G-code and several common 3D-printing formats, including G-code variants, 3MF, Lychee, CHITUBOX, resin slice formats and common model formats such as STL, OBJ, AMF, PLY and STEP/STP. What PrintProfit can calculate automatically depends on what information the file contains.

Automatic print data

Readable sliced data can provide print time and material usage. G-code metadata may supply time, filament grams, filament length or volume. 3MF projects can also expose slicer, printer, profile, nozzle, layer height, infill, supports and bed information where stored.

File analysis status

The Print Information area tells you whether the file analysis is detailed, basic, limited or still waiting. Missing data is not guessed; enter it manually when necessary.

Apply detected settings

When file metadata includes useful printer or material information, use Apply detected settings to transfer the detected values into the calculator. Check the values against your slicer before relying on the final result.

Print Setup

Business tools — Pro

In Results, save up to three calculation snapshots to compare quantities, revenue, costs, fees, profit, cycles and energy. Name each scenario, change the calculator and save the next. Snapshots are saved with your project; removing a snapshot does not change the calculation. Comparisons use your current display currency.

Customer quotation: enter your seller name, customer (optional), description, reference and tax/delivery notes. Print or choose Save as PDF. This draft includes selling prices, discounts, delivery charges and the customer total; internal costs and profit are excluded. Confirm the details and tax treatment yourself before sending. Customer details entered in the quotation form are not saved in projects.

Internal costing CSV includes material, electricity, depreciation, labour, packaging, fees, profit and farm details. It is intended for your records, not for customers.

Production allowances: expected failures add full planned attempts and associated material and per-product labour. Changeover minutes add hands-on labour and elapsed time between cycles. Downtime extends elapsed time only, with no assumed idle electricity or depreciation. Packaging and order delivery remain tied to requested good products. These are estimates; actual failures and stock use can differ. Logging a completed print deducts the normal successful-product material amount, not estimated failures.

Material scanning — Pro

Open My Workspace → Workshop → My Materials → Scan material. Start the camera on a supported HTTPS browser, or type an EAN/UPC code. Camera images are processed on your device and are not uploaded. Stop scanning, close the workspace or leave the page to stop the camera.

The scanner recognises barcodes, not printed label text or RFID chips. A new barcode needs manual product details and a purchase price. Save it once; later scans can prefill matching workspace details. Review the type, brand, colour, package amount, price and remaining stock, then Save to add a new package. Scanning alone never changes stock. Unrecognised or conflicting codes use manual entry. Saved barcode metadata follows your normal workspace sync choice.

These business and scanning tools require an active Pro trial or subscription. Manual material entry remains available on Basic.

Printer

Select a supported printer profile or choose Custom. A printer profile supplies estimated power and a printer price/lifetime figure used for electricity and depreciation calculations. Printer prices are reference values and can change.

Material type

Choose Filament (FDM) or Resin (SLA / MSLA / DLP). Resin printer profiles can automatically move the calculator into resin mode.

Material cost

Enter package size and package cost, then enter how much material is used per print. PrintProfit calculates the material cost from the amount used rather than charging the whole spool or bottle to one print.

Print time

Use the detected print time where available, or enter it manually. Print time affects electricity and printer depreciation and therefore changes the total cost to make.

Operating Costs

Labour

Enter labour hours and minutes per print and your labour rate per hour. This represents your time preparing, finishing, packing or otherwise working on each print.

Packaging & other

Packaging is a per-print cost. Other is for additional costs that do not fit the main fields, such as consumables or small operating expenses.

Electricity

Enter your unit electricity rate (£/kWh), or use an available reference benchmark as a starting point. The calculator combines the printer's estimated power draw with print time to estimate electricity usage and cost.

Actual tariff matters

Supplier names and benchmark rates are reference information only. Your real tariff can differ because of supplier, plan, region, meter type and payment method, so use the rate from your bill whenever possible.

Selling & Fulfilment

Platform fees

Select your selling platform to preload its configured platform fee, payment fee and fixed fee assumptions. You can edit those fields when your own account charges differ.

Delivery

Select a courier and service to load a reference rate. The automatic rate can still be overridden in the Cost to you field when your actual shipping cost is different.

Customer delivery charge

Cost to you is the amount you pay the courier. Charged to customer is the amount you collect from the customer. The calculator keeps these values separate when calculating profit.

Reference rates

Courier and platform figures are estimates/reference data. Parcel size, dimensions, destination, account type, surcharges, promotions and fee changes can alter the final amount.

Quantity & Batch Pricing

Quantity

Set how many identical items you are pricing. Quantity of one represents a single print; a quantity greater than one automatically switches the results view to Batch Pricing.

Batch discount

Enter the percentage discount applied to the selling price per item for the batch. This changes batch sales and therefore batch profit and margin.

Selling price per item

Enter the price you intend to charge for one item. The calculator then uses the quantity, discount, fees and delivery inputs to calculate the batch outcome.

Single vs Batch result

Single Print shows per-print cost, selling price, profit and margin. Batch Pricing shows the cost, sales and profit for the full quantity using the current batch discount and fee assumptions.

Results & target pricing

Total Cost to Make

This combines the applicable material, electricity, printer depreciation, labour, packaging, other costs and delivery cost for the selected result.

Selling Price, Profit & Margin

Selling Price is what you charge. Profit is the amount left after the included costs and applicable selling fees. Margin is profit expressed as a percentage of selling price.

Quick price buttons

The 30%, 50% and 60% buttons set a target margin using the current costs and fees. Clicking an active quick button again can undo it and restore the previous selling price.

Custom target margin

Enter your own target margin, such as 42.5%, to calculate a price from the current cost and fee assumptions. Batch target pricing also uses the current quantity, discount and delivery charge.

Profit Toolkit

What If?

Test changes without permanently changing the main calculation. Explore lower material usage, less print time, labour savings, packaging or delivery savings, or a different selling platform.

Cost Breakdown

See how the current cost to make is divided between material, electricity, printer depreciation, labour, packaging/other costs and delivery. This helps identify which inputs are contributing most to cost.

Price Ladder

See the selling price needed for break-even and a range of target margins using the current selling channel, fixed fee and delivery charge.

Bulk Buy

Compare a bulk material or packaging purchase against your current price and estimate saving per pack, total saving and saving per print.

Sell Where?

Compare fee impact across available selling channels at your current selling price. Platform assumptions may not include every monthly, promotional or optional charge.

Profit status

The Results area gives a quick status such as Profit, Break-even or Loss together with the current margin so you can read the outcome quickly.

Workshop: materials & printers

Save regular materials

The Workshop section of My Workspace lets you keep reusable filament and resin profiles with a name, type, brand, colour, package amount and cost.

Use a saved material

Select Use on a saved material to apply its details to the calculator instead of entering the same package information repeatedly.

Edit or delete

Saved material profiles can be edited or deleted. They are separate from saved calculator projects.

Currency

Material library values are stored for reuse and displayed using your selected calculator currency and conversion settings.

Projects: saved calculator setups

Temporary working draft

PrintProfit keeps a temporary working draft on the current device while you work and when you deliberately move between calculator areas such as Compare Products or Profit Advisor. This prevents ordinary section changes from losing your inputs.

Save Project

Save Project creates a named project containing the current calculator setup. After loading a project, Save becomes Update so changes can be saved back to that same project.

Manage saved projects

The Projects section of My Workspace lets you Load, Update, Rename, Duplicate and Delete saved projects. Reset clears the current working state but does not delete separately saved projects.

Where saved projects live

Projects save in this browser. With Pro account sync enabled, a copy of your saved project settings and slicer-analysis details can sync to your other devices. Uploaded print files stay on the device where you added them.

Compare Products

Search & filter

Search product names, retailers, brands, colours, pack/build details or material type. Filter by category, brand, material, colour, retailer, price range and availability.

Smart search & quick filters

Common aliases such as Bambu/Bambu Lab, PLA Plus/PLA+ and FFF/FDM are recognised. Quick filters let you jump to Filament, 3D printers, In stock or Under £20.

Select & compare

Tick the box beside a product and keep selecting while changing filters or brands. The comparison tray keeps your selections for the current browser session.

Product details

Use Details to see the product image, category, brand, material/technology, colour, retailer, pack/build volume, price, unit cost, availability and any recorded price history.

Saved comparisons

Save a selected group as a named comparison. Saved lists are stored locally on this device and can be loaded or deleted later.

Prices, images & freshness

Reference listings show checked dates and a live/reference status. Price history builds as future refreshes record changes. Missing product photos use a safe fallback; the refresh job can discover exact retailer images where supported.

Delivery & final checkout

Delivered-price information is shown only when shipping data is available. Final retailer checkout remains the source of truth for delivery, VAT, coupons, bundles, account pricing and stock.

Check live before buying

Compare Products is a comparison aid, not a guarantee of checkout price. Open the live retailer listing before purchasing.

Install PrintProfit

Your home-screen app

Use Install PrintProfit when offered, or your browser’s Add to Home screen option. On iPhone and iPad, open PrintProfit in Safari and use Share → Add to Home Screen. Installation keeps the website’s features and opens it in its own window where supported.

This first app version requires an internet connection. It does not store prices, coupons or account data for offline browsing. Local projects belong to the browser/device storage: use the same browser profile and export a backup before switching browsers, devices or clearing site data. Pro account sync is optional. Website updates are fetched online; close and reopen the app if an update is not visible.

Who operates PrintProfit?

PrintProfit is operated by Mr Connor Steven Jones. For account or privacy questions, email Printprofit26@outlook.com.

What is stored in an account?

Firebase Authentication handles your email address, account ID, verification and password recovery. PrintProfit does not store your password. With your choice to sync, your printer and material profiles, saved project settings, slicer-analysis details and the small records needed to keep devices in sync are stored in your own Firebase account area. Uploaded 3D model file contents stay on the device where they were added. Profiles and Projects already saved in a browser are copied only if you choose “Import profiles & projects”; you can keep them on that device instead.

What stays on my device?

Calculator inputs and supported print files stay in your browser. If you enable account sync, a copy of saved project settings and slicer-analysis details is sent to your account; the original model files are not uploaded. Deleting your account does not remove local Projects, files or browser data from your other devices.

Where is account data stored?

Firebase Authentication processes authentication information in the United States. This project's Firestore database is in London, United Kingdom. Optional Google Analytics runs only after you accept it. Read the full Privacy Notice for providers, lawful bases, retention and your rights.

Common questions
Why does my result look wrong?

Check the printer profile, print time, material amount and cost, labour, electricity rate, delivery, selling platform and all applicable fees. Replace reference values with your actual costs wherever possible.

Why did nothing auto-fill from my file?

The file may not contain readable metadata. PrintProfit does not guess missing values. Enter print time and material usage manually, or use a sliced file that includes the metadata needed for analysis.

Why does the file show detailed analysis but the calculator value is different?

File intelligence can report information separately from the live calculator inputs. Review detected values and use Apply detected settings when appropriate, then confirm the final printer, material and usage values.

Why did the result switch to Batch Pricing?

Quantity greater than one automatically selects the Batch Pricing result view. Returning quantity to one selects the single-print result.

Does saving a project save it in the cloud?

Projects save locally by default. With Pro, sign in, accept the sync notice and choose to sync so saved project settings and inventory can be available on your other devices. Uploaded model files stay on the device where you added them.

Can I rely on the listed electricity, courier, platform or product prices?

Use them as reference starting points only. Provider tariffs, delivery rates, marketplace fees, product prices, promotions and stock can change. Check the live or actual source whenever accuracy matters.

What is the safest way to price a real order?

Use the actual material cost and usage, real print time, a realistic labour rate, your actual electricity tariff, the real delivery cost, the actual customer delivery charge and the selling platform fees you pay.

Important: PrintProfit is an estimating tool. Provider prices, marketplace fees, delivery charges, electricity rates and other market values may not be current. Estimates should be checked against your actual costs before you use them for a real sale.
